ROCKVILLE, Md.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Aegis Industries, LLC announced today the issuance by the U.S. Patent Office of U.S. Patent No. 8,324,902 B2, which is directed to a waveform recorder/analyzer designed specifically for electroshock weapons (ESWs) currently deployed by military and law enforcement agencies throughout the world.
The patent describes technologies used to identify, record, test, and analyze the electrical energy discharged from ESWs. Additionally, the information obtained from the various testing procedures may be stored, transferred, and shared, for a variety of purposes.
The technologies described in this patent will allow military and law enforcement professionals to quickly, safely, and accurately record and analyze the output of ESWs to ensure proper operation, performance, and reliability. “Aegis is proud to be a pioneer in the development of technologies that will allow end-users to locally and independently verify the proper operation of the 600,000 ESWs deployed by almost 17,000 military and law enforcement agencies in 107 countries throughout the world,” said Kenneth J. Stethem, Chairman and CEO, Aegis Industries, LLC.
While concerns for characterization and verification of electrical energy discharged from ESWs have existed for years, no simple, cost-effective solution has been available to end-users until now. The Aegis Axeos ESW Waveform Recorder/Analyzer utilizes this proprietary technology that will be available in the first-quarter of 2013.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Law Enforcement Standards Office (OLES) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the world’s leading organization that prepares and publishes International Standards for all electrical, electronic, and related technologies, have both recognized the need for the standardized measurement of ESWs. The IEC 62792 measurement is applicable to any and all ESWs (http://www.iec.ch/dyn/www/fp=103:14:0::::FSP_ORG_ID,FSP_LANG_ID:8974,25). Numerous organizations have repeatedly recognized that standardized measurement of ESWs is an essential component in establishing both rigorous performance requirements and rules-of-deployment guidelines. Standardized measurement of ESWs will also provide the baselines for future medical, safety, and performance studies
